Who we are

History

AA&K Consulting Services Ltd was incorporated in 2001 under Ghana’s company law (Act 179) and offers Taxation, Business Support services and is registered with the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana.

The other firm, AA&K Chartered Accountants, was incorporated under the Incorporated Private Partnerships Act, 1962 (Act 152) and provides Auditing, Accounting and Liquidation services. The firm is classified under category ‘A’ by the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana, with practicing certificate no. ICAG/F/2021/114 and is also registered with the Ghana Association of Restructuring and Liquidation Advisors (GARIA).

About Us

AA&K possess an excellent core team of well qualified tax practitioners, auditors and accountants with several years of practical and successful hands-on post qualification experience in senior and top management positions in the public and private sectors of Ghana, other African countries and the United Kingdom. The uniqueness of the firms is that, they are indigenous and have professionals who have worked at the helm of Ghana’s tax administration.

Our Experience

AA&K has, as a result of the quality of services it provides, been able to attract an impressive list of high-profile clients in various sectors of the economy for whom it performs Taxation services, Audit & Assurance services, Business Advisory services and Business support services.

The firm’s clientele cuts across major sectors of the economy. The majority of these clients have retainer agreements with the firm whilst others are on a specific need basis.

The Team

The Team is made up of highly qualified professionals, with varied educational backgrounds and experiences in both public and private sectors.

The current staff strength is twenty-five (25), twenty (20) of whom are graduates and five (5) were officers in Ghana’s tax administration. Our staff strength is made up of ten (10) Chartered Accountants, seven (7) partially qualified staff, three (3) Consultants and five (5) support staff.

The Firm also possesses an extensive network of qualified and experienced associates in other disciplines including Project Management, Legal, Quantity Surveying, Information Technology and Human Resource Development.

Mr. John Defortse

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of AA&K Consulting Services Limited, Partner of AA&K Chartered Accountants

Mr John Defortse is currently the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of AA&K Consulting Services Limited and a Partner of AA&K Chartered Accountants since year 2014. He is a former Regional Director of Internal Revenue Service (now GRA) in the Ashanti Region.

Mr Defortse is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA), Ghana with membership number 101086 and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana with registration number M378. He is a Graduate of the University of Ghana and an Auditor/Tax Expert with considerable experience in tax practice and auditing.

As a Partner in the firm, he is responsible for reviewing all statutory audit files before the final accounts are delivered to the client. The professional audit opinion and management letters are reviewed by him together with Managing Partner before delivery to the Client.

In addition to the above, all audit assignments by the Ghana Revenue Authority to AA&K Chartered Accountants have been conducted successfully under his supervision based on extensive tax audit experience gained as Tax Auditor in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Large Taxpayer Office over the years.

Between January 1987 to June 2009, Mr Defortse was the Regional Director of IRS, Ashanti Region and was responsible for:

Administration of Direct Taxes in the nine districts of the Ashanti Region.

Supervision of the implementation of tax policies.

Monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the nine tax districts and

Coordinating logistics for the Northern Sector of Ghana under the Internal Revenue Service.

As the Head of the Ashanti Region of the then IRS, he was directly responsible for the procurement and purchases for the region including all the district offices. He was actively involved in the administration and had direct oversight of the region.

From January 2004 to February 2007, he was the Audit Supervisor at the Large Taxpayer Unit of IRS located in Osu where he was responsible for:

Conduct and supervision of Audits of major companies under the Large Taxpayer Unit.

Assisted the Audit Head in the development of audit procedures and programs necessary for the successful implementation of the Large Taxpayer Unit.

Provided on-the-job training for the Audit staff assigned from the various Revenue Agencies in the conduct of integrated Tax Audits.

Since 2009, John has undertaken several projects involving:

Provision of tax advisory services to various multinational companies in Ghana across all sectors of the economy.

Tax training programs for industry practitioners both in-house and seminars

Supervise several tax health checks and audits including audits commissioned by the Ghana Revenue Authority(GRA)

Undertake tax resolution of several tax issues on behalf of several multinational companies

His tax experience covers a wide range of sectors and all tax types.
